In 1996, Daniel D. Antoni presented his work on biportal epidural endoscopic discectomy to the world. In 2001, Dr. Abdul Gaffar demonstrated this biportal surgery at American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS).
This held the potential to be the next generation of minimally invasive spine surgeries, and I subsequently introduced unilateral biportal endsoscopy (UBE) to South Korea in 2001. Since then, UBE has developed far: it has become a powerful minimally invasive spine surgery that is applicable to a diverse set of spine pathologies.
UBE has found its place and continues to spread across the world. My mission is to further innovate UBE and share its benefits with all patients.
